South Tyne Drilling Limited is the longest serving landfill drilling specialist. Established in 1989 by the husband and wife team of James and Marie McCrindle, the company still holds true to its family-run values.

Since 1989 South Tyne Drilling has grown from strength to strength, cementing its position as a market leader operating throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland. Despite its growth, the company has retained the qualities of a close run family business which has helped to establish an enviable reputation for excellence and efficiency.

South Tyne's drilling rigs are all modern, track-mounted machines configured specifically for landfill drilling and can easily be adapted to meet the most demanding borehole requirements.

With such equipment, drilling is faster and more economical than ever before, and combined with the McCrindle family’s hands-on approach, South Tyne Drilling fulfils a personal and dedicated service to each and every client.

Our Services

Gas and leachate wells

South Tyne Drilling specialises in the drilling of gas wells, leachate wells and monitoring wells on landfill waste sites.

Using first-class modern drilling rigs, rigid barrel augers of 375mm and 450mm diameter are the most commonly used for landfill gas wells, with a 600mm option particularly suited to leachate wells.

Boreholes are available up to 1 metre wide and beyond 60 metres deep. Where required temporary steel casing is deployed.

Equipment

South Tyne Drilling use Comacchio and Casagrande hydraulic drilling rigs which are adaptable for landfill drilling, natural ground drilling and rotary piling. These multipurpose machines are tough, powerful, compact and highly manoeuvrable and are suitable for a wide range of diameters and depths. With features such a retractable telescopic undercarriage they are specifically designed for easy transportation and rapid mobilisation.

The fleet contains a Comacchio MC3000, a Comacchio MC1500, a Casagrande B125 and 2 Runrig International rigs. This fleet gives us huge flexibility with rigs varying from 20 tonne up to 45 tonne. With state-of-the-art equipment, South Tyne Drilling can drill faster and more economically than ever before.
